A very handy tool in gauges

The Vermont American Thread Gauge is a really handy tool. I use it primarily on firearms and have found that the range of thread sizes listed covers most screws used in firearms.

Pros
  • Industry & Science
Cons
  • A dubious purchase for the elderly

Precise but poor quality

Rough edges, blades do not fold smoothly. I worked at a hardware store where we had the exact same thread gauge and it was much better quality. I'd rather pay more and get the quality I expect. At least they are accurate. I changed my rating to 1 star because IRWIN sells it for the same price or less and I'm sure it's a higher quality. The Vermont American I have sucks, but at least it does the job.

Pros
  • Thread
Cons
  • Thin

Strange choice of which thread pitch to cover

I bought this thread gauge primarily to work with bikes. Older English Raleigh-made bikes have bottom bracket and headset threads that are 26 TPI rather than the more common 24 TPI. Unfortunately, the designers of this sensor decided to skip 26 dpi and include the 27 dpi sensor instead. In fact, they jump straight from 24 to 27 and skip everything in between. Working on cars, motorcycles, bicycles and as a chief electrician, I have never encountered a 27tpi thread in my life. Spring. At least…

Pros
  • Test, measure and check
Cons
