I then shortened the rubber to 1/16 inch and that seems to have fixed the problem. The USB-C port can't take much side load from a very strong rubber casing. The body is very durable. I gave one star for value because I have to keep buying new charging cables.

After my husband had to spend nearly $125 to have his Galaxy S8+ replaced after cracking the screen with the cheap clear clamshell case that Samsung included with the purchase, I told him THAT WE CAN'T HAVE GOOD STUFF and bought him this case. Now he uses it. Since then he has dropped his phone twice and his phone is still intact. If you are clumsy and often drop things, especially expensive ones like cell phones, do yourself a favor and buy this case.
