🚗 Wolo 8088-C 12V Universal Compressor Replacement for Direct Drive Horn (18-21 PSI) Review

Replaced the Hornblasters Musket Compressor with this higher quality, heavier unit and the horn now sounds how I imagined it after hearing the faint noise of the supplied compressor.

I bought this direct drive compressor thinking it would produce more sound for my air horn which I was planning to use it on. I didn't think that was the case and decided to return it with no problems. It was a bit heavy and I'm surprised it didn't get louder.

The pump works well but not very strong. I have double horns and the pump never builds up enough pressure to blow through them. It's probably fine for a horn, but the motor isn't powerful enough to spin the pump at full speed. It works slowly and generates no pressure.

Replaced the compressor with this one. Curious to know why the last one broke, I took the old one apart and found it could be repaired. While Wolo recommends greasing once a year, getting it right is impossible. Requires disassembly/cleaning of blades, brush holders and commutator, proper greasing/lubrication and reassembly. Now I have a spare.

The underperformance of this compressor can only mean that it was not wired up correctly (wrong relay, wrong gauge wire and switch). I've tried every mini compressor and this one easily blew them out. Not even in the same stadium. But you know better what you are doing when you plug it in, otherwise yes it will be a pointless purchase. But it's easily a 5 star pump.

In this upside down world, this is a great product. I mean once I figured out that they hooked it up the other way around it works great. The old pump on my horns is tired. It's embarrassing to honk the horn and your truck sounds like a cartoon hauler. The new pump is a few kilos bigger and is now waking up the neighbors again. I just can't give 5 stars, how does a plus wire become a minus and a minus become a plus?

The manufacturer no longer stocks a replacement for the original air pump for the air horns on my boat. The pump they had now was very expensive. I went to Revain looking for a replacement to use. I was surprised to find this device which looked very similar to the original device and was very reasonably priced. The first unit they sent me was badly damaged in transit.
