Sound quality for preamp

Totally useless! They have a lot of hum (both grounded and ungrounded) and additional noise created by board resonance.

Pros
  • Good product for its price
Cons
  • Interchangeability

Buyer Warning; Try a trusted brand instead

Came out of the box with a terrible internal grounding issue that caused a lot of signal noise and barely boosted my turntable. waste of time and money.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Compatibility

Moving Coil Works best in receivers and amplifiers

Works great. This may not be the best phono stage, but I needed this as an experiment. I wanted to make sure I needed a moving coil amp for an old turntable. That's what I needed, so this filled the bill.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging

Invalid block received.

I bought it and haven't used it for a while and it was too late to return it when I plugged it in and found the grounding wasn't working and something was wrong with the MM/MC switch (It seems to be upside down as my MM cartridge sounds terrible on MM and better on MC).

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Update available

Does the job - home audio

It works and does what it's supposed to, but I'm having some issues with the gain. It seems unbalanced and the output can sometimes be too loud on the left or right. In addition, the sound is more subdued than with a turntable with a built-in preamp. On the other hand I'm new to vinyl so maybe that's normal what to expect from a cheap preamp.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Was damaged

Works well - great price!

Very good preamp. I was looking for a preamp that would work with both MM and MC so I wouldn't have to rethink a preamp when upgrading the cartridge to MC. Many others that work with MC are much more expensive. Why pay the price when it works so well?! It wasn't listed when I bought it, but the power adapter is included.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • No

The buzzing and humming made me think of returning the goods at first. I connected the ground wire from the phono stage to the ground jack on the mixer. My configuration: phono stage -> preamplifier -> mixer + equalizer -> active monitors. The hum and hum has been successfully suppressed. Next was the MM/MC switch, which obviously doesn't work as advertised, ie the MC label corresponds to the MM head and the MM label corresponds to the MC head. But I don't care as long as the result is

Pros
  • phono preamp, preamp, aluminum panel, audio player,
Cons
  • crumpled

Poor grounding causes a lot of hum!

Several other customers have also commented on the grounding issue. Looks like they drilled a hole in the painted sheet metal cover and put in a captive screw to act as a ground rod. The very slight wobble of this screw tells me that no other material holding it leaves a ground on the tin case that doesn't appear to be grounded to the ground circuit/PCB of the RCA connectors. one of the cinch inputs, I really wanted to listen to my records. It still hums at best, but at high volume.

Pros
  • High quality 24k gold contact
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

I've tried a competitor's preamp that claims to work with a pickup, but I don't think it will. It could transmit an m/c signal, but the sound quality was very poor. As a result I took this preamp from Extreme and it has a special m/c pickup circuit. To my surprise, not only did this unit transmit the correct m/c signal (not a bad sound with my m/c cartridge), but when using another player its m/m circuitry had better sound quality than the first preamp, that I tried. I dug up an old m/mโ€ฆ

Pros
  • distortion; Free and Low Noise Amplifier
Cons
  • No Instructions
