What is Mantle
Mantle Network is an Ethereum layer-2 network that runs Ethereum contracts with minimal changes and settles on Ethereum using ZK validity proofs. MNT is its gas and governance token; the Mantle brand absorbed the BitDAO governance organisation in 2023.
Network and consensus
| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Type | Ethereum layer-2 rollup (EVM-compatible) with separate execution, data availability, proving and settlement modules |
| Consensus | Relies on Ethereum: state transitions are verified on Ethereum through ZK validity proofs |
| Launched | First mainnet block on 2 July 2023 (chain ID 5000) |
| Withdrawal period | Bridge withdrawals finalise after 12 hours since 23 September 2025 (previously 7 days) |
| Data availability | Migrating data availability from EigenDA to Ethereum blobs (EIP-4844) |
| Smart contracts | Yes; Ethereum contracts and tools work with minimal modification |
Supply and issuance
| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Initial distribution | 6,219,316,768 MNT at the 7 July 2023 snapshot: 49.0% Mantle Treasury, 51.0% circulating |
| Issuance | The MNT contract has an upgrade and a governance-authorised mint function, as in ARB and OP |
| Circulating supply method | Circulating supply = total supply minus MNT held in Treasury Holdings |
| Token conversion | BIT converted one-way to MNT at 1:1 |
On 31 October 2026: 3,302,003,382 MNT in circulation, 6,219,316,794 MNT in total (source: Mantle token-data API).
What MNT is used for
- Voting weight in Mantle Governance (one MNT, one vote weight)
- Paying gas fees on Mantle Network, where MNT is the native token
- A principal asset in Mantle Rewards Station
Who develops and governs Mantle
- Governance
- MNT holders vote on Mantle Improvement Proposals covering products, tokenomics, budgets and the Treasury
- Voting venue
- Off-chain Snapshot votes in the space bitdao.eth
- Treasury custody
- Treasury held in Safe multi-signature wallets
- Legal entity
- Website terms are governed by Singapore law; the network is described as incubated by a DAO
- Open source
- Code published in the mantlenetworkio and mantle-xyz GitHub organisations
History
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 2021 | BitDAO launched as a DAO-directed treasury and governance platform for the BIT token |
| 19 May 2023 | BIP-21 vote (12-19 May 2023) approved merging the BitDAO brand into Mantle under a one-brand, one-token plan |
| 7 June 2023 | MIP-22 vote (31 May-7 June 2023) set the BIT to MNT conversion at 1:1 |
| 2 July 2023 | First Mantle mainnet block produced |
| 7 July 2023 | Initial MNT distribution snapshot of 6,219,316,768 MNT |
| 23 September 2025 | After the OP Succinct upgrade (from 16 September 2025), withdrawals moved from 7 days to 12 hours |
Security and audits
- Audit reports for the v2 upgrades are published in the docs, including Secure3, OpenZeppelin and Sigma Prime for v2 Tectonic (March 2024)
- A forced transaction inclusion mechanism lets users fall back to Ethereum if the system fails
- The 12-hour withdrawal window is kept as a buffer so the team can respond to a bridge security event
Security incidents
No security incident is recorded in the sources checked on 31 October 2026 (the company’s own channels and incident databases): api.llama.fi/hacks, rekt.news/leaderboard, hacked.slowmist.io/search, mantle.xyz/blog, status.mantle.xyz
Official MNT contracts
| Network | Contract address |
|---|---|
| Ethereum | 0x3c3a81e81dc49A522A592e7622A7E711c06bf354 |
| Mantle Network (native MNT) | 0xdeaddeaddeaddeaddeaddeaddeaddeaddead0000 |
Addresses as listed in the Mantle governance documentation; the BIT to MNT migrator contract is 0xffb94c81d9a283ab4373ab4ba3534dc4fb8d1295 on Ethereum.
Risks and caveats
- MNT is upgradeable and governance can authorise new minting, so supply rules can change by vote
- Governance votes are off-chain Snapshot polls; execution relies on Treasury multi-signature holders
- Until data moves fully to Ethereum blobs, data availability depends on external EigenDA operators
- MNT transfers to US persons are restricted under the token documentation

Questions and answers
What is Mantle?
Mantle Network is an EVM-compatible Ethereum layer-2 that settles with ZK validity proofs; MNT is its gas and governance token.
Is Mantle the same as BitDAO?
Yes. Under BIP-21 (May 2023) BitDAO merged into the Mantle brand and BIT holders converted to MNT at 1:1 under MIP-22.
What is the total supply of MNT?
About 6.22 billion MNT total and 3.30 billion circulating as of 31 October 2026, per Mantle's token-data API; governance can authorise minting.
How long do withdrawals from Mantle to Ethereum take?
Since 23 September 2025 bridge withdrawals finalise after a 12-hour window, down from 7 days.

How voting works
Votes are anonymous and carry no text. Each device has one vote per item; press the same button again to remove it. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is voting. We keep a random device ID in a cookie and a salted hash of the IP address to limit abuse — no names, no accounts. Votes are visitors’ opinions, not investment advice.
