If you follow the included instructions you would build the base of the drawer before installing it, thus allowing the holes to be easily lined up. However with the way the "feet" are created, the holes are too close to the rails and the screws cannot easily be applied down through the "feet" of the drawer while it is fully assembled. These lids are sturdy and thick. I feel like the contents are completely protected. The inner lid is the standard mason jar metal.
