We don't use them for added absorbency, we use them as liners to protect our cloth nappies when we need to use traditional nappy rash barrier creams (zinc oxide, petroleum jelly, etc.). We've tried several other pad options, but all disposable and biodegradable options leak diaper cream, which reduces diaper absorbency. These flannel inserts protect the diapers very well and promote healing of the baby's skin. After some use (monthly use) they get filled with diaper cream and I hate their smell (and the smell of our diaper linen) so I use them as rags or throw them out and buy new ones. but they last a long time and in terms of convenience and price, they're better than taking the time to make them yourself. We have bought them several times and will continue to do so as long as they are available and we have children who can wash nappies.
