I saw one at the hardware store with a low pile that makes the spikes deform easily. It may be a return. The spikes on this deep pile are hard. It holds the ground fairly well because the spikes are about the same depth as an OEM car mat. The top of the tread is textured so it is not slippery. It is very difficult to find a real non-slip mat to put on the carpet. I use it as a first layer because it really doesn't slip thanks to the deep nubs. It's easy to give it any non-standard shape with scissors or paper cutters. Then I put a custom mat on top of this tread. Because it's plastic, I can attach the top mat with glue, tape, or velcro, while the entire top mat and protective film can be removed if needed.
