I couldn't get any kind of lock out of the so called lock joint on this stick. At first I thought that maybe the piece of plastic inserted into the wand was for packaging, so I pulled it out and was then able to get the knob on the end of the hose to lock onto the wand. But with this method the rod was too large in diameter and wobbled. Then I put the plastic piece back into the pole. But the plastic covers the buttonhole so the button can't go in the hole. I don't know if I'm missing something and it's user error, but it just didn't work for me. But on top of that, when fully extended, this wand is way too short, at least for me (I'm 5ft 9in). If you're really small, this might be a good wand for you, but not for me. I ordered a Cen-tec 34553 extension instead and it's great and the push button latch works.
