I bought a 5 year old laptop with DisplayPort as the multimedia interface but I needed it to keep me busy with our media project of work to be able to connect via HDMI. It took some research to find out the similarities and differences between the two standards. In many ways, DisplayPort appears to be the more reliable standard, but has been largely overshadowed by HDMI's ubiquity in home media products. My main concern was whether this adapter would be able to carry audio along with the video signal. Many reviews seemed to indicate that it would handle video with ease (and indeed it does), but few commented on whether it would also carry audio (and unfortunately there is little or no comment in the product description itself). , is one of the main advantages of the HDMI standard. When I first tried to connect to my TV I was very disappointed that no sound was coming through, but then I checked my sound controls and found that the TV's speakers were now showing up as a separate audio device. . I switched the standard TV speakers and the rest is history. You get one set of speakers or the other, but not both. So you should expect good audio throughput, but check the settings if they don't seem to be working.
