It made a mess but it worked

Since I didn't have a spray gun to use on this grill cleaner I decided to try an alternative method and sprinkle pellets on the grill, squirt water, wait and to wipe . It worked somehow. First, the idea of granulating the rust quickly struck me, either a wasted exercise or extreme patience. If you don't place the pellets almost one at a time, they will fall through the grates. I somehow solved the problem by first wetting and then spraying the rust. Some stuck, many failed. After spraying and dusting several times, I finally got a pretty good coating of pellets on the grill grate. I waited a few hours and returned. When I wiped it with paper towels, a lot of the dirt came loose, but again the crystals (more in clumps now) fell through the grates onto the bottom of my gas grill. I ended up using a cleaning brush to go over the grilles, paper towels didn't really work, then I took the grilles off and cleaned underneath. When all was said and done the grill looked pretty good, but I had a mess on my deck and needed to sweep up some pellets. Well, lesson learned... next time I'll dissolve the cleaning granules first and spray on, that should be easier!
