Review on Syiswei 12MM Rock Climbing Rope: Versatile, Durable, and Safe for Outdoor Activities by Tim Paolucci

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Warning! Dangerous goods with defects that could not be overlooked during packaging!

Bought this rope to use for a short home outdoor climbing wall project. After purchase I took a look at the rope but the defects turned out to be so (they) weren't visible until I started untying the bundle. By the time we finished our mini climbing wall project and I started unwinding the rope, it was too late to go back. The first major defect (first three photos) is clearly visible where there are major factory weaving defects on the shell) and the worst part is that it had to be rolled up somewhere by a person who couldn't miss it! Looking again (see last picture) it was easy to find another defect, but this is due to the bulging of the inner core material. I didn't even try to unwind further as this is useless rope. Selling this as a climbing rope is a shame. I wouldn't dare use this on our 12ft mini wall and can't imagine others using this rope in even more dangerous situations. And it wasn't cheap, another $25 and I could have bought branded rope, tried and tested, safe and good quality. Don't repeat my mistake, I'm not the first to receive a rope in this condition. Follow-up: Thinking someone might buy this rope, even after my review, I decided to unroll the rope and carefully inspect and document it. Hopefully this will prevent catastrophic events that could happen to people who have purchased or are considering purchasing from this seller. As expected, I found defects all over the rope. Such cable lengths must have continuous fibers. Both the core (protruding white villi) and the outer shell show extreme segmentation, as can be seen. This rope can fail at any time under the weight of a person or even with a small dynamic load. Assuming the load is shared between the kernel and the shell, you can see that both are compromised. And for people who could get a rope without this kind of core damage, you can never be sure that there are continuous fibers in the inner core for the entire length of the rope. Again, there's absolutely no way this damage went unnoticed when the rope was finally coiled (the person definitely did this to complete the rope coiling process). This means that all ropes coming from this source must be considered compromised. Remember that! A sudden, unprepared fall from five feet can mean a broken leg, arm or arm. From a height of ten feet, there can be a back, neck, or serious head injury — even paralysis or death. (I've seen the worst happen.) Forget 20 feet - it's a bad day, and this 90 foot rope that says "climbing rope" you do that math. Yes I foolishly fell for this scam and foolishly contemplated letting my kids use it on a low practice wall in my backyard. I intend to lobby Revain to have this seller remove all climbing designations from their listings. It's no better (or different) than the $20 service rope available at Home Depot.
