tragedy! This purchase was a disaster. The remote control didn't work. The buttons on the DVD player itself worked but had to be pressed very firmly. At the top of the device there is only stop playback and open / close. Since the remote doesn't work, it would be nice to press the buttons on the player instead. I couldn't play my DVD because I couldn't make a selection on the screen.

I bought one of these for my brother who needed a DVD. I looked at the new version in a $90 box and then found this refurbished version. When it arrived and I opened the box, it was packaged like new. Most parts have never been opened. Someone must have bought this not knowing it was for HDMI and returned it. That is, for $38 I get a nearly new block? Amazing so I'm buying a few more for others and myself.

Thing works fine. It's super cheap. But: (1) No feedback on which track you are on. This is a very bad feature for playing music discs. How to choose a track? Spring. You can hardly do that, or you just have to guess. (2) Very, very slowly. Disc loading takes too long. If you want a very basic DVD player, this thing will do. But I wish I had bought a more advanced one with some feedback on the title I play.

I am very satisfied with this player. My old one broke and I was panicking because I'm broke most of the time even though I work. I am 78 years old. I always watch a lot of movies when I get home from work. After pressing the power button and wondering if the unit was on (no light or other indication), I pressed the open/close button (the tray opened), inserted the DVD, and closed the tray. Buying this refurbished car was definitely a mistake. I put a new DVD in the tray and hit the play button and it loaded for 10 minutes and then when the movie finally started it stalled. I removed the DVD and put in another new one and the same thing happened. So I took the lid off the DVD player and everything looked brand new inside and out, but I cleaned the laser with eyeglass cleaner and a cotton swab even though it wasn't even dirty.
