This is a very thin rectangular/oblong light. The light emitted is very weak. I've found this to work best for very quick use to see objects in kitchen or toilet cabinets/drawers. The detection area is smaller than expected, and even if you move within sight of the automatic detection area, the light keeps going out, which can get annoying very quickly. As for the batteries needed, I wouldn't recommend it for the price versus performance. It just doesn't perform as well as it should for its price range.
