Review on New Balance Womens BW1000V1 Walking by Ron Damndjperiod

Warm, comfortable and water/snow ready. Love!

These boots are really comfortable with a ride that feels more like a heavy trainer than a bulky boot. That's exactly what I wanted. Traction is excellent and still handles icy patches and packed snow with ease. The heat so far is excellent; I've worn it for 40 minutes in single digit temps with just a pair of Smartwool hiking socks and my toes stayed comfortable. Walking in mud and 3-5 inches of snow kept my feet dry so waterproofing works well. The fit matches their shoes, so for example the 7.5 fits the same as the Fresh Foam 1080 running shoes. I took my normal shoe size (which for me is 1/2 size larger than a street shoe). If you want more room for two layers of socks or have a wider foot, I recommend going 1/2 size over running shoes or 1/2 full size over street shoes. The only negative is that there is no tongue. As a result, boots can be a bit difficult to slip on and off and tighten. I have fairly narrow ankles/heels so it's not a big deal, but a traditional tongue/lacing system would be easier. The same goes for dressing; I need a firm closure to keep my heels from slipping in most shoes, which is more difficult to achieve with a firm boot than a tongue. Luckily, the upper's material is flexible, making it easy to tighten the laces. All in all great boots. Warm, comfortable and waterproof for everyday winter wear and walks in the snow with the kids!
