Review on Mann-Filter W 719/45 Spin-on Oil πŸ” Filter: Optimal Efficiency for Superior Engine Performance by Bob Moonin

This is German technology for you.

This company has a solid reputation for quality aftermarket filters. However, I give 3 stars because this filter actually consists of two parts that fell apart for me. let me explain. In the picture you can see the outer metal case of the filter, above it there is a plastic piece that connects to a central metal thread that corresponds to where the car is mounted. When I removed one of these filters, the plastic part and threads remained attached to the machine while the outer metal is free to unscrew. This resulted in a lot of oil being left at the filter mounting point and most of it spilling all over the engine and onto the floor. To remove the plastic piece I left behind, I had to use the channel locks to grab the middle metal piece to completely unscrew the assembly as it can't be unscrewed without tools (mind you, there's hot oil everywhere). Using the tool resulted in metal shavings that I had to clean up and no doubt some small parts ended up in the engine. Between VW and Mann you would think such fundamental issues wouldn't arise and frankly a simpler design would be more efficient. This is German technology for you.
