This monitor does a great job. The children's room is connected to the socket. The remote control can be operated with batteries or with a mains cable. We use our Revain AA branded 2 rechargeable batteries. This requires two AA batteries. The device will NOT charge the batteries for you, even if you plug it into an outlet. If you use rechargeable batteries, you need a commercially available charger to charge the batteries. Batteries are not supplied, so you must bring your own. Important Note: This sounds like an occasional or frequent shutdown. It is not so. It attempts to conserve battery power by only broadcasting audio when there is something to broadcast. If the room is very quiet, no sound will be transmitted at all. If you have a fan running in the background, sometimes you'll hear it and sometimes you won't. This is not a problem. It transmits sounds every time your baby makes noises. We are in an area with a lot of wifi traffic but not a lot of houses. We have not encountered any interference issues with this set of monitors. In addition, the sound is probably encrypted. This was a requirement for us. I don't notice any lag in the audio, although it takes about three seconds for the devices to agree on a conversation before audio streaming begins. They only offer one-way audio. The remote control has no way of transmitting sound to the nursery device.
