Review on Mountain Buggy Terrain Stroller Graphite by Brenda Willoughby

The comparison with BOB Pro

I'm a serious runner and recently had a baby so I researched the jogging buggy carefully to buy it. I've narrowed the list down to the 2016 BOB Pro and Mountain Buggy Terrain. I chose the Mountain Buggy and here's why. Workmanship: My kid isn't old enough to walk with him yet, but all the research I've done shows that the Mountain Buggy wins in this area. When walking, which I did, it's so smooth to push. The MB is designed to be able to raise the front wheel slightly for easier navigation when it's locked (for walking). It can make walking easier, but I find that the stroller puts a little weight on my back when walking. For example, I wouldn't dare to hang my diaper bag on my back and pack that weight in it. Assembly: The BOB was very easy to assemble. The mountain buggy was very difficult to assemble, there were no words in the instructions. The BOB's tires were fully inflated, but the MB's tires were not. The MB drum break did not work correctly when delivered. The mountain buggy also stunk for a while. Basket: The basket of the mountain buggy has zippers on three sides. This seems to be very important when running off-road to keep your stuff from bouncing. It would also be helpful for a little more privacy on a Disneyland-like trip, as people leave their strollers outside of the rides. Wheels: The mountain buggy comes with two sets of wheels: 12 inches for everyday use and 16 inches for running. The mountain buggy can also lock the front wheel forwards or backwards depending on your preference when walking. Folding: The Mountain Buggy folds more compactly than the BOB Pro, but that's not my favorite Mountain Buggy feature. The folding mechanism is under the child's feet. The crease also causes the handle to land on the ground. I never figured out how to gracefully unfold the stroller. The Mountain Buggy is advertised as a one-handed foldable, which is not entirely true, as the handlebars have to be folded down first. The BOB fold is also a little awkward and you have to snap it in place to secure it. The mountain buggy locks itself. Canopy: The BOB canopy wins this category. The canopy of the BOB is huge and offers great protection for the baby. The Mountain Buggy has a "sun-following" top, which means it can extend all the way forward, but then you lose rear protection because it's not as tall as the BOB. Compatibility: The Mountain Buggy is more like a stroller without a frame. which can be used with three different types of seats. You can completely remove the included seat and just use the car seat or carrycot that doubles as a stroller and a parent-facing seat. If you are traveling and want a stroller seat and a car seat, you can also leave the stroller seat and attach the car seat. Since the MB seat is completely removable, it is easy to clean. It also has a soft lining (patterned fabric) that can be removed very easily for easy cleaning. Harness: BOB wins in harness. The BOB harness doesn't have a drawstring, so you don't have to fiddle around and unbuckle the back. The BOB's straps are a really ingenious height adjustment design. The Mountain Buggy straps are weird and I couldn't figure out how to easily adjust them. Tilt: Both strollers recline to a fully horizontal position suitable for walking with a newborn. Extras: While the BOB Pro is cheaper than the Mountain Buggy, when you factor in the extras you need to buy for the BOB (handlebar bag and snack tray), they cost about the same. The Mountain Buggy has plenty of pockets to store your belongings and comes with two water bottle holders for the parents. The appetizer tray for the Mountain Buggy is also significantly cheaper. Customer Service: BOB is owned by Britax. I've had several Britax car seats and only had fantastic customer service so I can only imagine the BOB CS is just as great. I contacted Mountain Buggy because the handbrake on one of the wheels was not working. The wheel also squeaked a lot. MB sent me instructions on how to adjust the brake but honestly it's confusing and I really wish the money I spent on this stroller worked from the start. I am very happy with my mountain buggy! I know several professional runners who have MB, that's all I needed to know to make my choice :).
