This litter is rough and hard (for small birds) and cannot be broken and carried away. I usually buy from the pet section of the grocery store - the litter is smooth and silky soft so all birds, large and small, use it with ease and enthusiasm. This bedding is definitely not for hummingbirds, too stiff and hard, I only ordered this because I couldn't get to the store fast enough and the nest building is NOW in full swing. Still suitable for jays etc, but soft bedding that covers ALL birds gives you more utility in less space.
