So my Mercruiser 5.7 has 260hp. 1989 with EI everything went smoothly - no problems. The wiring is unclear, but after looking at it for about 90 seconds, everything became clear. purple to purple, red to red, and then two more wires on the only two pins configured to accept cords. After a week it works fine - the ammeter reads about 14. I don't expect this unit to last as long as the OEM, especially in a marine environment, but for the money you can't go wrong I would say. It's basically a part that you can replace pretty easily every few years - damn it's cheaper than a battery and a lot easier to collect and dispose of.
