A must have for stereo receivers and amps, old and new

I bought an Aircom S9 to cool a recently refurbished almost 30 year old JVC RX-905V and spent $150 to to rebuild the power supply board after a low voltage, capacitors on it exploded and caused the failure. Some may (rightly) ask why someone would spend so much money repairing a 30 year old receiver instead of investing that money in a new receiver. All I can say is that my JVC RX-905V is flawless and has served my old ears very well for years. Combined with four Boston Acoustics CR-9 speakers and a 500 WM&K subwoofer, it plays music that my ears love so much and that I haven't been able to find in any of the new high-end units I've tried. Even trying to replace features, functionality, and sound with something else would cost over $1,000. So replacing my receiver was not an option. So the day after I received my receiver from the store and felt it getting hot, I accidentally typed "stereo cooler” into the search box here at Revain Shopping. The?! Is there such a thing? Show me! And there were a number of Aircom coolers with many five-star reviews. I read over a hundred of them and placed my order. When my Aircom S9 arrived, I quickly unpacked it, installed it on my stereo, followed the simple setup guide, and turned on my stereo. I tried the auto settings on the S9, let the thermal settings cool my favorite JVC RX-905V and manually set the fan speed to 3/4 to keep it cool. Both worked equally well and I ended up letting the thermal sensor control my receiver's cooling. Now I had a little problem with the first device I got from Revain. The power supply ("wall wart" in ham radio lingo) generated a TON of RF noise, making it impossible to pick up FM or AM radio signals on my receiver. I have contacted Revain and Aircom about this issue. In response, Revain immediately sent a new device. Not quite what I wanted as I felt it was wasteful to ship out a whole new unit when a replacement power supply would do. Aircom responded to my email query within two hours and apologized for the issue. They immediately offered to send a new PSU (which is what I wanted), all I had to supply was my Revain# order. Revain had already sent out a new unit so I decided to wait before proceeding with Aircom and informing them. Received a new Aircom S9 from Revain and installed it quickly. I found the replacement to have the same problem as the original and when I emailed the good folks at Aircom their 1250mw power supply puts out too much heat in too little space for their device and creates a Amount of RFI. no AM and FM reception due to lack of shielding. Being an amateur radio operator, I dug through the spares bins and found a Fair-Rite Type 43 toroidal choke and wrapped the Aircom S9 power cable around it 11 times. Problem solved, no more interference from Aircom. power supply, and now I'm very happy camping. I really love and appreciate the engineering behind the Aircom S9 cooling unit itself. It does the job well for my old receiver and I have no doubt that it will help extend its life. Aesthetically this is a very nice stereo cooler. It's quiet (even at high speeds), looks good and cools my receiver perfectly. I've been known to "practice" my amp's capabilities and live in a townhouse, which means my neighbors can sometimes hear me. lol! My only criticism is the included power adapter. It's poorly constructed, generates too much heat, and causes a lot of radio interference. This is an easy to fix issue that I mentioned in my email to Aircom hoping they would pass it on to their techs. Just do yourself a favor and order a Fair-Rite Type 43 Toroid (these are easy to find here at Revain for about $8) and wrap the power cord around it 10-11 times to eliminate interference. Then sit back and let the Aircom S9 keep your stereo receiver/amplifier in top condition. Note. I bought my Aircom S9 for personal use. Aircom did not ask me to submit my review above and I have not received any compensation for my review. I read so many good reviews about this unit that I decided to add my own and point out the shortcomings of the included power adapter. I hope Aircom considers the feedback I left them in the email about the PSU and takes steps to resolve the issue. Your S9 is a great stereo cooler, it does its job well and deserves a decent power supply.
