Review on LG 3D UHD Blu-Ray 4K Player with Remote Control, HDR Compatibility, DVD Upconversion, Ethernet, HDMI, USB Port (Black) - NO WiFi by Brent Borseth

Exquisite picture quality!

This 4K player has the most stunning picture quality I've seen, but that might not say much. 8K resolution will appear in the near future. Other models I have used are PHILIPS BDP7501 and BDP5502, SANYO FWBP807. The LG UP870 features a stunning upscaling mechanism that can smooth out grainy images and significantly increase detail without being overly aggressive. This makes the high-quality DVD look like a real Bluray and the Bluray quality is very close to 4K! The 4K images reproduced by this player are PHENOMENAL, the clearest TV images I have ever seen. Fascinating! 4K HDR discs will automatically play in this mode if the disc doesn't prompt you to select SDR. I find some HDR discs too extreme for my liking, but this player has picture quality settings that you can adjust to your liking during playback. I usually lighten the image and reduce the color a bit. I don't think this player currently supports Dolby Vision, I have a disc with this feature and it looks great in standard HDR. This LG player recognizes my MP3 CDs. and DVDs of classic radio shows, you can jump to any track at any time by entering its number. I also appreciate the ability to play DVDs in Region 0 (ALL) PAL video format. UP870 has an excellent PALNTSC converter, the video is very smooth. As of this writing, a multi-region version of this player is available here at Revain for around $200. I am currently using a PANASONIC DMP BDT270 multi-region for my other region. Collection. Another great budget player. The remote control is intelligent but small, very light and fits well in the hand. It only uses one AAA battery. The build quality is impressive, and I love the stylish front buttons that are shaped to match their function. I would like LEDs. One front LED I can live without is the BRIGHT RED standby indicator! It LOOKS at me when I'm not using it at night. Creepy. When I first plugged this player in I saw this light and waited for it to do something, I thought it was on! After a while I press the power button, the RED indicator goes off, GREEN on. I don't care about a blank screen when ejecting a disc, it's too bright at night. I don't like the corner icon on the screen. I often see this when watching my classic Star Trek TV series on Blu-ray and can't turn it off. annoys. Use the center hole carefully. There is a recess on the front right, which is impractical for me. My PHILIPS 4K TV gets along well with my LG UP870 but just calls it "Player 2". I didn't notice any noise problems, the player is always very quiet. I truly believe this is the best 4K player you can find for under $100. However, it is NOT intended to be streamed over the internet and I'm fine with that. I would prefer that more effort was put into the overall functionality of the product at all times. I bought a 4K Blu-ray player and this is what I want, NOT an internet hub. I am VERY HAPPY with this player and a pleasure to use, impressive! I printed out the instruction manual for it and it's 56 pages long! Please note that this review is for the 2017 model.
