I loved these lamps and was able to customize them myself. As the description says, you can plug it directly into the USB port on the back of the TV. and you can use the included protective tape to install it the way you want. I went the other way and used secondary tape provided by the supplier and just stuck it where needed so I didn't have to put glue all over the back of the TV if I ever needed to remove it. The product comes with a remote control that even seems to work with the ambient light sensor behind the TV. You can switch between 9 colors and even choose a setting to switch between colors, fade in and out, etc. In terms of functionality, the light turns on and off with the TV. If it's day and you don't want to turn on the light, you can turn it off with the remote control.
