Works for a hard hat, you just have to have the attachment shown in the picture for it. It took a minute to figure out how to switch it, but basically you have to pop the plastic peice that connects the earmuff to the matel peice (carefully, the plastic is cheap so one of the pins broke on mine which I was able to replace with a screw) and then those plastic connectors pop off the metal peice with a little twisting then you're able to put them on the attachment for the hard hat on the metal for that and then just pop them back on the earmuffs. They're half the weight that the original hard hat earmuffs had been and a lot smaller so it's more comfortable with the hat. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is just cause the peice that broke but I was still able to salvage it.
