Although I usually prefer multifunctional items, in this case I think it is better to use a special solar fan. The fan function was the main motivation for my purchase and I'm not sure if it's the size/shape of the fan or the size of the solar panel, but it doesn't move as much air as I would like. All functions work, and while it's still a good choice when trying to keep items to a minimum for a weekend hike, it doesn't do well in tropical heat or tropical bugs. Definitely better than no fan. The ability to pre-charge or charge from an outlet is a great feature as I can get a charge from an external battery or car when needed.
