If you are not sure what memory is installed in your computer, [.] offers a "Memory Advisor" to let you know. Very easy to use. Memory upgrades are the cheapest and quickest way to improve your laptop's performance. I had 1GB of RAM installed and the maximum Windows XP Home recognizes is 3GB. After a bit of research I found that I didn't need to install matching pairs and I was able to install a 2GB memory chip and leave the existing 1GB chip to make the most of the memory. Installing the memory module was easy. I went to the Lenovo support page and they have instructions (and even a video) to show you how to do it. I assume most major computer manufacturers also have support pages on how to remove and install memory modules. All I had to do was remove the battery, loosen the four screws, pull out the palm rest (that was the hardest part), disconnect the cable connecting the palm rest to the system unit, and insert the memory module until it clicks. Then I reversed the steps and done. After installing the memory, I ran some memory tests. MemTest86 is one of the leading free memory testing software that you can download for free from their website. If you are a Windows user, you can also download and use Windows memory diagnostic tool for free from Microsoft website. The Windows Memory Diagnostic runs several more thorough tests. Use a search engine to find these programs. Given my five-star rating of the product, the result of the tests should be obvious: there are no bugs.
