Review on πŸ’Ώ Sony BDU-X10S Blu-ray 2X BD-ROM/8x DVD-ROM SATA Drive with Software - Black by Alexandergraham Visoro

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great ride but not worth it yet.

I built a new computer a few months ago, I have all the hardware I need and Blu-ray still gives me too many headaches. Do not get me wrong. The drive works great. However, as some have pointed out, this disc requires you to get hold of the software, which I think still falls short in consistency and ease of use. Some Blu-ray discs work fine; Many Blu-ray discs take far too long for Google to try and figure out how to get them to play. Who's to blame? Ironically, I would blame Sony. Their Digital Rights Management (DRM) is one of the most consumer-unfriendly inventions in recent history. Even when you think you've figured it out once and for all, they release updates that cause you to constantly find a bulletin board post explaining how to get your software player to work with this BR- New DRM DVD to play well. I'll keep fighting it because I'm stubborn. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't regret buying the Blu-Ray one bit. If you still have doubts, go to the bulletin board of one of the players/decoders that can handle Blu-ray content: Total Media Theatre, PowerDVD, AnyDVD. Then you're wondering if it's a good thing that there are so many content on how to troubleshoot Blu-ray on HTPC.
