I need an inexpensive dB meter that also records the dB level over time. I follow planes that fly over my house. This software device does just that. I installed it in my office to get used to using it. The software has many perimeters depending on the data collection needs. Once you understand how it works, you'll be amazed at how much can be built from such a cheap device. I don't do scientific work, but she did a good job. Following the instructions I set it up on my tripod. I disconnected the PC and left it outside for many hours collecting data. Collected and connected to a PC. Downloaded and displayed in the software table. Not bad either. But then the data is transferred to Excel where you can manipulate hundreds of different charts, graphs, printable data, etc. It comes with a mini jack connector which I assume can be used as a power source but the instructions for that function are not clear. . That's why I only use batteries. Still a pretty amazing product for the price compared to anything else that has data logging capabilities.
