Review on Buy the Makita B-35097 Impact Gold Ultra-Magnetic Torsion Insert Bit Holder! by Gerardo Cibrian

Saves time but has some limitations

I bought this bit holder to use in building a fishing pier on a small pond and this tool worked for me. Using this tool with a T25 bit in a 12V Bosch screwdriver, I installed nearly 400 screws (9 x 2-1/2 inches) holding the pine deck boards to the dock frame. The main benefit of this bit holder is the magnetic sleeve that holds each screw in place. To use the holder, it is first inserted into a hex collet (or chuck) on a screwdriver. The blue sleeve is then removed from the bit holder so that the appropriate screwdriver can be used. It takes a bit of effort to remove the blue case, but that just tells me it can't fall off during use. This bit holder works with short bits (1 inch long) because longer bits have the screw head too far from the magnet ring. Inside this bit holder is a small retaining ring that provides a very strong grip on the bit being used. In fact, it took me quite a bit of effort to remove the 1" long bit when I had to briefly resize it. This holder does a good job of preventing the screw from falling out, but it's best for driving screws into pre-drilled pilot holes. I started by using it to turn screws without pilot holes, but it doesn't hold the screw securely enough to do this easily, I found it better to spend a few minutes making "first" pilot holes with a depth of about 1/2" to drill. Even in soft woods, it's easy to accidentally overtighten the screws because the magnetic collar covers the screw head as it enters the hole. This is not as critical on a fishing dock as it can be in some cases. Several times I have had to remove the blue bushing to see the screw head and fine tune the depth of drive when the hardness of the target material is sufficiently consistent. This bit holder may not be suitable for every application but I find it a time saver and great value for money. for this price.
