The door needs to be completely flush with the jamb for them to work

I have an old door that doesn't sit perfectly flush with the frame rendering these locks useless. The lock is designed so that there is no leeway as the bolt slides into the fixed part. I suppose the lack of play with the lock is a good thing, but since my door is farther than the jamb I couldn't use the lock. Your door should be perfectly level with the jamb.
