The best way to get this rug is by sewing

While self-isolating, my wife and I decided to take up quilting as a hobby/activity. Okay actually she made up her mind and I agreed to help how it works. But the same result. We did all the research, she bought her quilting supplies, and I was the geometry guy and did the marking, cutting, and other prep work. 6 quilts, 2 table runners and a few pillows later, here is the result for this product: I've never heard of a self-healing rug. That is so cool! who knew I've probably made several thousand cuts on these things and no marks. I mean it can't last forever but since I've been using it before I wouldn't be disappointed if it stopped today. However, no signs of use. The measurements are accurate, as are the angles. I can't think of literally anything they could do to make it better other than make it bigger. Oh, and it doesn't move on the table. It's a bit heavy, but the most important thing is that it doesn't twitch when you put pressure on it. Everything remains very solid. You can't dig into the top or anything and it's very tight. But apparently that's enough for you to feel the cut in the tissue, but not sink into it. Now the cutter we originally received just had a regular stainless steel wheel. [Note to self and others - using a cut-off wheel on a perspex cutting board will ruin the blade. Don't ask how I know that. ]So we got a package of new titanium blades [<- yes, use those, not steel]. Although I'm finally on the second blade, I believe the first blade lasted MUCH longer than I thought thanks to this mat.

Pros
  • Easy to assemble
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
