Due to conflicting reviews about the 'smell' of the Adir Self Healing Mat, I felt the need to write a review. I got my 18x36 mat quickly thanks to Revain Prime, even though Blizzard just leveled the East Coast in 2016. It was sent in a flat box of the right size. This is no ordinary cutting mat. I have used it to cover my drafting table which after 40 years of use is not the smoothest drafting surface. Not only does this mat fix that, it also eliminates the need for a T-square, since on most paper sizes I can use a triangle or ruler to draw straight lines if needed. Spreading out the mat gives a width of 36 horizontally and 24 vertically. The measurements if you quilt and put a quilt ruler on and line up blocks/inches will line up correctly horizontally but not vertically.
