Review on Bowman Rectangular TV Stand For TV'S Up To 65" In White Oak by Oscar Kaufman

Awful assembly, heavy but not sturdy

I had high hopes for this stand when I pulled all of the pieces out of the box: if the very heavy weight was any clue, this should be a really sturdy piece of furniture. Unfortunately, all the "little things” degraded this unit more and more as I assembled it: holes out of alignment, cam-bolt issues, plastic packing stuck with glue to parts of the wood, imperfections in the finish, and so on.The main problem with assembly had to do with the cam bolt locking system. The cam screws fit into predrilled holes with a plastic liner, and you can under- or over-tighten the screws because there is not a definitive "stop” depth in the hole. If the cam screw isn’t driven to the correct depth, the corresponding cam nut cannot grip the head and lock it down. Unless you measure the depth for each cam screw as you tighten it, or manually look through the cam nut hole to ensure it's correctly positioned, you will end up with loose joints—or worse, cam nuts that won’t go into the holes at all because the cam screw head is blocking it.There were also several holes for the wood screws that were simply not drilled in the proper precise locations. Wood components had to be really forced into position (with another person helping) so the holes could be lined up for the screw. And the edges of the overall unit do not meet up perfectly. The back of the unit has a thin panel that is folded in half in the box, with a strip of black tape running down the center line. When they added packing foam, it got stuck to the tape in the center of the fold and was impossible to remove clearly. So the back panel has little bits of white plastic stuck to it; I elected to leave it off the stand altogether for this reason.Overall this is a very average looking TV stand, and definitely not worth the effort and aggravation of the assembly. I would much rather buy something from IKEA that I know will have pieces that line up properly and fit together tightly. This unit is super-heavy but also rickety, really undesirable in furniture.
