Review on πŸƒ Westin Running Board Mounting Kit 27-1445 by Brian Cooper

Very poor instructions, missing essential parts, contains many unused parts and is a potentially dangerous product

Let me tell you about the numerous problems associated with this product. 1) The instructions are very poorly written. There are no part markings at all, so you can only guess which mount goes where. Use my "unboxing picture" to help you figure this out so you don't go through the same pain I went through. The manual consists of 4 pages, but is written in several languages. They have divided the whole process into 4 steps, each consisting of 1-2 lines, which is not enough to explain anything. Which screws need washers and which don't? What are the torque limits (I broke a few during installation) 2) The hex head bolts are zinc plated full thread class 6, but there are 6 less than you actually need to complete the installation. Grab a few and head to your Ace Hardware or Home Depot before you start. Considering the cost of this kit I would expect there to be spares and not short pieces. 3) The short brackets that attach to the outside of the floor almost all had to be bent outwards to match the support rod holes. 4) The passenger side rear support rod touches and rests lightly on the parking brake assembly. 5) Several charts recommend using 2 screws on the inside of the support bars, but only 1 will always fit. Only 1, you're supposed to use 2, and there are short bolts left in the pack? It's not acceptable. 6) The rear support rod on the driver's side should be installed under the parking brake cable, and then bite the cable. I went back to check a few days after installation and the bar bites into the cable. I expect the parking brake cable will fail within a year. It's a stupid and almost dangerous design. See photos. 7) The center support bar on the driver's side is too long and the inside does not reach over the skid plate/heat shield under the car. Therefore, in order to free up this mounting hole, you must drill a new hole. You will need to drill another hole on the outboard end since you lengthened the stem 1 1/4 inches. Next, to keep the footpeg from sticking out of the car, you'll need to cut the end of the support rod 1 1/4 inches so everything can be leveled. This is the dumbest design I've ever come across on a car. I hope my photos will help you with the installation.

Cons
