Short battery life in the collar, presumably this is not shocking

After much research I decided on this system. I've had a few others in the past that had great shaped rechargeable collars, but this company was bought by a competitor and then discontinued, so back to expensive replacement batteries. The fold out installation sheet was ok but not comprehensive enough for the two dog collars to be trained. My dogs are already used to our previous dog restraint system so no training was necessary but my older dog just stands by the fence, his collar beeping like crazy but he never gets electrocuted. The battery on her collar is dead and it costs $10 to replace it. So, the pros: the wire seems better than my last one, and we'll be using it to slowly rewire our 1-acre property as needed. You can download the user manual online, which has become the standard for many electronic products these days. The collar is light and seems comfortable for my dogs. Customer service was VERY good at solving my problem! Cons: The cloth collar is difficult to adjust to size and quickly takes on a dog's scent (I miss the molded collars of the previous system). Battery life is only 2-4 months. HOORAY! Again, I miss the rechargeable collars from my previous system! The collar training wasn't as easy as it says on the sheet that came with it. I need to read the online user guide for more information. I wish there was a green flash every now and then so you know the collar isn't dead at least! I really wish I had read more reviews before spending money on a full system when all I really needed was a new collar transmitter and receiver. Maybe this system is better than the competition, but it's too early to talk about it. I will update it in time. TO UPDATE. After a friendly call from support, I was told to watch an online video on how to program the collar. Once again I followed the instructions verbatim and the collar still fails to shock the dog! The tones are so quiet I can barely hear them, let alone my 12 year old labrador. There, the shock would have helped contain them. She's right over the wire fence. We've had other pet fences in the past and my dogs have grown up with them so it's not a training issue. I don't think I need an engineering degree to program a damn collar! Other dog and collar work fine! Support offered to send another Hyperdog collar.
