This hood is pretty decent for the price. We wanted a cute look and a round shape for our chicken coop gable vents. Size and quality are great for this purpose. This is a very cost effective solution to our needs, which is reflected in the quality of the product. The plastic is very light and thin. Not a sophisticated architectural accent, this is just the thing for a barn or chicken coop. The plastic screen on the back should be less than 1/4 inch rodent proof but may not be rodent proof. Just in case, we'll probably back it with cloth for the hardware inside. Before installing the vent ensure it is secure and dry and paint the structure as it will be difficult to remove or reposition once the built in clips are secured to the back of the base surface.
