I have a closed wooden cabinet with 1.2 cm thick walls. I installed a fan over one of the two holes I cut in the sides of the case with small metal bolts and nuts and it was so noisy. Instead, I mounted the fan to the wall with four silicone screws and it's much quieter. Then I moved the fan a few millimeters further away from the cabinet wall and wrapped one of them around each of the fans going through the fan and the wall and sort of rotated between the cabinet wall and the fan and it was almost quiet after that. It's in a hole in the wall unit. On the outside of the case, the small rounded ends of those silicone screws barely protrude, and the fan's frameless PVC air filter fits snugly inside, easily removing for cleaning and then reinstalling. It just hangs by the small ends of the silicone screws and nothing else is used to hold it. That's all you see on the outside of the cabinet: a flat black square with a brown dot near each corner of the black square.
