I've had this router for about a year now and it has proven to be extremely reliable. I don't remember ever having to restart it. In fact, it's so reliable that I only recently considered updating the firmware, which was probably the stock version. I bought it to replace the D-Link DIR-655 specifically for dual band functionality. I found this router after deciding to buy a TRENDnet Wireless N 450Mbps Dual Band USB 2.0 Adapter (TEW-684UB) elsewhere and pair it with this one. [Too little research on my part as the adapter's 450Mbps speed doesn't exactly match the router's AC speed of 867Mbps, but oh well, the adapter works fine on the 5GHz band with a constant 300 Mbps.] 5 Wireless The GHz LAN worked as I hoped and hit a room in the house (the bedroom on the second floor) where I had previously had trouble getting the signal. The adapter above is actually under my porch, in a small room next to my basement where the walls have a lot of resistance. Although the signal strength is not outstanding (3/5 bars), it is a solid 300 Mbit/s. The only disadvantage I initially had was that my iPhone 4S at the time could not maintain a stable working connection on it. The phone connected and worked for a while and then just stopped communicating. Trying to access the internet would just time out, but since the WiFi said it was still connected it never tried to switch to 4G. I actually have an extra router at home (it came with my oven/thermostat) so I was just lazily using it. I upgraded to an iPhone 5S a few months ago and it seemed to have the same issue. Every other device I own (and I have many) connects to this router with no problem. Today I finally decided to update the firmware on my router (I could have sworn I'd already tried that, but the current firmware was 2013). Wow, my 5S can now keep in touch. I've been using it online for several hours now with no hiccups. Again, every other device in my house works fine with this thing over WiFi: 2 Windows laptops, 2 Windows desktops, 2 Android tablets, 2 Kindle Fires. , 3 Android phones, 1 TV, 3 Blu-ray players plus a desktop PC and connected Xbox 360 and guest devices at any one time. I have multiple HD streams at the same time, as well as different downloads, and I've never noticed a problem. Now that my iPhone is connected I am completely satisfied with this device.
