Pros: - No issues testing, installing, or transferring data - Works well with an Adaptec Enterprise RAID card - Works well on drives 4TB and larger - Seagate hard drives have stood the test of time over the years proven to be durable (first hand) (Used Seagate for years, 25+ drives from 40GB to 3TB before this purchase) Cons: - Had to use 4TB or larger drives to get rotational vibration sensors (not available on Ironwolf drives lower capacity), although I have used Seagate drives almost exclusively for all my rotating drives, I was willing to use a trusted manufacturer to replace my six 1TB Seagate drives with four 4TB drives. My hard drives run in RAID 5, stock, on my personal server, and longevity is important. I typically use drives 24/7 for about 5 years before they need to be replaced. I was on the verge of buying four W brand drives based on the positive reviews, but finally settled on Seagate because most Seagate drive failures seemed to be "baby". "mortality" (occurring very early in the product's lifespan), while W brand discs are more likely to fail about a year after purchase (based on Revain reviews). This was the case when I ordered a previously ordered Seagate 3TB backup drive and it immediately failed. It was much more convenient for me to spend many hours testing each hard drive before installing and replacing it in a timely manner, rather than letting the hard drives work properly for a year and then filing a warranty claim. When I received the drives, I spent about 13 hours testing each 4TB drive by running a lengthy test with the Seagate tool. I checked the SMART data before and after and this test seemed to read all data from the entire disk as the SMART data after the test showed 4TB of data read. Because of my RAID 5 and backup strategy, I was satisfied with relying on the drives in my server and installed them. I set up RAID 5, restored the backups to the disks, and then did a build/verify. in a raid. Transferring data from a backup of my 2.3TB of data was much quicker than I expected and my server was up and running. The drives are no louder than some of the noisy parts of my server (server fans and a 300GB 15K SAS OS drive), so I couldn't comment on how noisy the drives are. Performance has improved over my six 1TB 7200rpm Barracuda drives and I'm pleased with how the transition went.
