The latches on the back holding it loose during use and the locking lever slides to the left, UNLOCK position! In order not to fall on the floor and hurt myself, I glued the part on the back of the seat to the top of the plastic stud with super duper glue. It worked and never moved again! Not sure why this happened like my previous one and similarly it never happened(?). This is a strong, heavy and high-quality thing! *****UPDATE************ February 2019: It has been a year and a half since I purchased this item and the seat has torn through and through! 200 pounds is the maximum weight it has ever carried and we don't use any chemical cleaning agents. This pressed wood seat lasted 1 1/2 years, our previous one lasted 5 years!
