Love this printer, it's perfect for my needs and used it for seven months until it died. Then why should I give one star? Warranty service is terrible! I've been going through HP's various slow steps for three weeks, including a 'refurbished' replacement, and that didn't work either. I know it may sound silly but I just gave up and bought a new one here at Revain because the price was very good and I received it in two days. Currently working fine. Fingers crossed. For my first printer, after a long hour of troubleshooting with an HP support rep on the phone, we decided it needed to be replaced. He said he would send a "refurbished" replacement. Five days later he showed up. Looked like new but couldn't get it to work. It turns out that the written instructions clearly state to install used cartridges from my previous (failed) printer. Not correct! The printer continued to reject cartridges and did not allow the installation to proceed. More time for troubleshooting on the phone. Eventually, this HP rep decided I really needed new cartridges. So she arranged for them to be sent. It took 9 days to get here (HP Instant Ink usually takes a day or two). Installed these new cartridges and again failed to set up the replacement printer. The screen said I needed "installation" cartridges, which they didn't send me. Google research (and reviews here) shows that there are many problems with 'installed' cartridges. And you can't buy them. So if they don't come with your printer, you're out of luck. So here I am with a new "refurbished" printer and it doesn't work either. Three weeks without a printer and scanner. It's good that my lifestyle and patience have allowed me to do this. Since I really like this printer and it suits me, I bought another one from Revain this week at a very good price. It showed up two days later, had the right "installer" cartridges, and was up and running in minutes. And I had this perfectly good replacement printer (no "install" cartridges) in my closet and unusable. What a waste! Since I had this unusable printer, I called HP support again today to see if they would send me "installation" cartridges for this now unusable printer so I can use it as a replacement. Impossible! They just wanted to walk me through all the troubleshooting steps again, even though the HP website says to call them if a printer shows up without "setup" cartridges. When I said I already did, the support man asked his boss to call me. Very nice and apologetic but there is nothing he can do except convey it to their complainant who will call me in two days. He called me and told me that not only can they ship the 'installed' cartridges themselves, they will instead send me a brand new printer that includes the 'installed' cartridges as all new printers do when i come back an unusable refurbished printer sent to me to replace my first printer which broke down a month ago. This new printer was delivered within two days. It seems like an expensive and inefficient system for HP to do things this way. I now have a new replacement printer that sets up like new and another printer that I bought myself (see above) that works perfectly. While I don't have the cost of the printer, I recouped a significant portion of the cost with no-installation replacement cartridges that HP sent for a refurbished, non-customizable printer. I can use them as a backup for my work printer. I also now have a new spare printer. Egad! All this took a month. So enough with the rhetoric. Great printer in my opinion. The warranty service is the worst I can imagine. YMMV.
