First of all I really like this scanner but there are some limitations to be aware of. If you can't live with that, look for a high-end scanner. Overall, this is great for home use if you're not too picky about the results. I've scanned a bookshelf now, but still haven't found a way to scan more than one book a day. I use a Macbook Pro and haven't had any issues with the software itself. Most issues are related to operational needs. Pros: Relatively easy setup and basic usage. I had an issue with the parking lights not working initially but the engineering department was very prompt and helpful. Since then no problems. The foot pedal works well. The carpet serves as a good background. The little window at the top of the scanner is useful, but I wish it was on the side so I can see it while I'm sitting and scanning. The bookends don't show up when scanning a spread, which is great. The output options are very useful, especially the .pdf and page standardization options. A few of my attempts to output Word ended in gibberish, but they were handwritten notes, so I won't judge until I try the book. Cons: The main issue is that the instructions only cover setup and basic operation. Trial and error is required to figure out how to improve or clean the scan. And cleaning scans is the main disadvantage. It takes hours to trim and clean a 300-page book after scanning. If you don't mind crooked pages, black lines or bottom pages when scanning, you won't mind. It's very simple, but very time consuming. Another major drawback is the lack of any option other than rescanning in case of incorrect editing/cropping. Need UNDO option. Another downside is page orientation scanning. The page is scanned and readable, but is slightly crooked. Scanning a very new or tightly bound book is still not easy or clean. Bookends help, but it's still difficult to flatten a book enough to make a readable scan. The bookends themselves are made for human-sized hands, so they really bother me. They work great because they don't show up when scanning a spread, but they do when scanning a single page. I only used the single page and comparison options because I have no idea what the other options are. There's nothing in the manual about it. Another disadvantage of scanning books is the orientation of the book, so the scans stay straight. I found it necessary to put something under the thin side to level it with the thick side for better scanning. As said, if the limits are too high, look for a higher quality scanner. With it you can do the main work. I would strongly recommend developers to add UNDO editing functionality in future versions.
