I have tried many other phone holders. The suction cups keep failing, the hinges start to loosen and sag, the phone is difficult to put in the holder or the latest problem is my phone doesn't fit. I have an iphone7 plus with an otterbox defender case. So it's not small at all. It fits easily into this mount, doesn't move much when the car is moving, and is easy to insert with one hand while driving. The only downside is that the phone stays on its side. As such, you should get used to using GPS in landscape mode, and any apps that don't switch to landscape mode will have to run sideways. I agree with this compromise
