Nice shelf. Instructional schemes are bad. Here are a few pointers. The small brackets go *in* the two side pieces, then attach the screws. Before you do this, look at the holes that the cross brace goes into and make sure they are all on the same side. If you don't, there's a good chance you'll have to take it apart because you really want to install that cross brace. Be careful not to over tighten the screws holding the shelves as I am sure they may break. Also, it's fairly inexpensive. There is no smell. The cover is plastic (as far as I can tell) so keep that in mind when using it. I probably wouldn't put my drinks on the shelves without coasters. Be sure to note the weight limit - the shelves simply bolt to the sides and there's no metal support underneath. So don't try to sit on it or put in an old CRT TV. I only use it as an organizer in my bedroom to keep things organized. For that, this is a great product for the price.
