Two things made this balaclava completely useless. First, the nose piece isn't a pliable piece of metal like most of these air-filtered masks. It's just a piece of plastic bent into a U shape. The main part of the valve with a disc-shaped part of a lighter color is the working part of the assembly. The black part is a shell that closes over the disc. The valves I received the disc for (a material similar to inflatable pool toys but thicker) were misaligned in the bed, resulting in the pin that the disc sits on going into a different part of the disc cut. This caused the disc to weaken in this incorrectly punctured area, rendering the disc and the entire valve unusable. Thus, not only does this balaclava not provide a good seal to the face. It also has poorly fitted valves that compromise a critical sealing component. Skip it, there are air filter masks available elsewhere. And don't pay more than $15 for a mask, and it should come with a few extra filters. And don't buy 3M Filtrete filter elements that someone cut out of an oven filter. You can buy the entire oven filter yourself.
