Possibly the best in its class, but only time will tell

I've had it for less than a month now and it's working great. This thing is either brilliantly made or a piece of crap, but only time will tell. My app didn't have any meaningful documentation, which is a major weakness. I spent 2 hours discovering 2 extremely important details that SOMEONE could have mentioned in all the reviews I've read. 1. To set the configuration, you need to press and hold the set button WHILE turning on the device AT THE SAME TIME. 2. If you want to change the configuration, you must first switch the configuration back to "Clear" "JBOD" mode. You can then set up a new RAID configuration. There is NO documentation guide that tells you anything about RAID recovery. I have qty=4 Toshiba Performance 5TB hard drives set up in a RAID 5 configuration. In a typical RAID environment, you have drive LEDs that flash in specific patterns and colors to let you know what's going on, as well as a kind GUI software to inform you about the status of hard drives and recover the RAID process after replacing a failed hard drive. With this unit I have no idea what to look for or if it rebuilds the RAID if a drive fails. The quality of the case material and design - 5 stars. I created 3 partitions on a RAID 5 volume and encrypted them with Bestcrypt Volume Encryption and it works great and is faster than any other enclosure I've had. The real test will be how it will stand the test of time and failed drive recovery.

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
