Review on πŸ”Œ U.S. Solid Standard Motorized Valve by Joe Calabro

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Failure after 7 months

After 7 months of installation the valve would not open (probably 500 cycles). It makes a clicking noise similar to a gear slipping. I removed the valve and tried 24 volts but the same thing happened. I see the ball trying to move but it won't open. At US Solid's request, he removed the actuator and checked the valve for functionality. It didn't stick, so the drive gears were the problem. It would have been 1 star but US Solid's very outstanding customer service upgraded it to 3 stars. After a day of emails and testing, US Solid offered a valve replacement or full refund, which I chose and received. I have already ordered and received a replacement which is currently working perfectly. I disassembled the failed valve to see why it failed. The problem was identified as a bushing on the output shaft. It was so loose that the gear did not fully mesh with the valve drive gear under load. This bushing turned out to be made of brass rather than bronze and was therefore too soft for this application. I replaced it with a bronze bushing which restored the valve to normal operation. This valve will not work, but I believe a new one will fail even if it has the same liner material. As I believe it is a design flaw I have lowered my rating to 2 stars.
