Review on DEWALT 18V 20V Adapter DCA1820 by Alan Estell

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Product rating after 1 year

Theoretically a great product. I've had this for over a year now. Works great for getting a little extra life out of my old 18v tool arsenal. Ideal for higher power tools such as circular saws, saws and grinders. It doesn't work with pins or nailers, you'll fire off a few shots before the gun starts flashing due to a low battery even if it has a full 20V battery. I assume there's a capacitor in the adapter , which discharges a lot after a few shots and the gun thinks the battery is low. The only way to fix the problem is to unplug the battery for a second. not very convenient, especially when making a crown on the stairs. I recently bought some 20/60v flex cells. Flex volt batteries will not work with an adaptor. It has a plastic block so the battery cannot be inserted. The biggest problem with the adapter is trying to remove it from any tool. The buttons on it are very difficult to press. I'm in my 30's, I've been in construction my whole life, I have enough grip strength, taking this thing off gives me a headache. Some older colleagues I know refuse to use it because of this one issue. No way the hell my wife will never be able to use it. Either poor product testing by Dewalt or intentional lack of promotion of new 20V tools? If you change it frequently I would suggest just buying 2 or 3 and keeping them in your tools, not bad value for life extension. I would still buy the adapter again, it's worth it. pain in fingers. update my old tools.
