Fiction! IF you can get it from an 18V tool!

OMG . it takes three strong men to REMOVE it from an 18 volt tool! I don't know if mine is defective, but getting it out of the 18V tool is an TORTURE. The clamps will not collapse or hang there for life. I HATE switching between instruments with it. I'm trying to be a loyal Dewalt guy. but for this I will buy fakes in the future. It only takes 2 minutes to pull it out 30 times a day. I did not.

COMPATIBLE WITH DIFFERENT BATTERIES DeWALT

I would like to know how DeWalt can make an adapter that does not work with a 20V 6AH battery? That's ridiculous. See photo of the problem! I could cut off those little ears and I'm pretty sure the battery will slide into the adapter, but is there any reason other than the physical shape? As you can see in the second picture the battery doesn't fit fully into the adapter so there is no connection. The first photo is just meant to show the two items I'm talking about. I'm calling DeWalt!

A very happy customer!

What's the difference! I have an 18v hammer drill and the 20v battery really woke the drill up. I have several newer 20V drills/screwdrivers so I didn't need an adapter with batteries. I compared it to an old 18V battery and a new 20V battery and I can feel the difference. Overall the fit is quite good. One thing I've noticed is that it's easier to remove the 20v battery from the adapter first than to try to remove it from the drill as a whole. I have no complaints and am very happy with the…

First Dewalt product I have ever bought and I give it a 1 star rating. Why? Would you believe you have to remove the battery from the adapter when not in use? Why? This discharges the battery! I have contacted Dewalt and they are aware of the issue and this was on purpose. It tells me they don't care. So while you can leave the battery in Dewalt tools that don't require an adapter, you must remove the battery from tools that use an adapter. This must be "proudly" marked on all packaging for…

  • Little things

My problem is the DCA1820 20 volt max to 18 volt XRP adapter. All other 18V XRP lithiums are fine and can sit in their dock for months with no discharge in or out of the instrument. I'm sick of dancing with you guys [Dewalt Tech]. I can't be the only one this happens to. The 20 batteries only drain when connected to the DCA1820 and an 18 volt tool. The 20V Max DCF887 driver will never fail sitting on the bench. These adapters have what looks like a diode and I think that's what drains the…

Product rating after 1 year

Theoretically a great product. I've had this for over a year now. Works great for getting a little extra life out of my old 18v tool arsenal. Ideal for higher power tools such as circular saws, saws and grinders. It doesn't work with pins or nailers, you'll fire off a few shots before the gun starts flashing due to a low battery even if it has a full 20V battery. I assume there's a capacitor in the adapter , which discharges a lot after a few shots and the gun thinks the battery is low. The…

Connects to any 18V tool with some modification

Adapter works great with any MAX 20V battery and most 18V tools. And it works with any 18V too Tool, as long as you modify the adapter (note that this will void your warranty), but it's only a $50 adapter. There are notches sticking out on both sides of the adapter that need to be cut or sanded, see my photo. I used my bench grinder, it takes less than 20 seconds to complete the job. After modification, it will fit any 18 volt tool. Please note that since all Dewalt 18v tools are actually 20v…

THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE TERRIBLE AND DANGEROUS

THE GOOD: Matches a 20V lithium battery to 18V tools as advertised. : Completely drains the lithium battery in just a few days if left on the adapter. The battery must be removed from the adapter after each use. I am thinking of hacking the adapter and bypassing the circuit load that is causing the leak. There is nothing to prevent an 18 volt tool from being operated with 20 volts without an intermediate circuit. UPDATE 9/17/18: I've deciphered why these adapters are draining the batteries…

A rare instance where a redesign doesn't delight the consumer

Thanks Dewalt! ) to overcome a major redesign. Like many Dewalt customers, I started collecting 20V Max products when I needed a new cordless tool as it was obvious the old 18V line was going to be phased out. However, with a few remaining 18 volt tools, I had no intention of abandoning the line. But with aging batteries I started looking for options. ***Insert Angel Down Sound Effect***This is a direct contact adapter for using 20V Max batteries with your XRP 18V tools. And it works great. Now
