Review on πŸ”Œ Monoprice Gold Speaker Banana Plugs - 1 Pair, Closed Screw Design for Speaker Wire Connections, Home Theater Systems, Wall Plates, and Beyond with Enhanced SEO by Carrie Morris

Poorly designed for 12GA wire, locking mechanism is schematic, impossible to return

I bought this a few weeks ago and just got around to installing it. Each connector consists of three parts: the main shaft, an insert that surrounds the wire, and another part with a small thread and a real banana connection. I inserted an image. Short version of why I don't like them: You have to insert the wire into the first part (the part in the picture with the red washer), then spread the strands of wire and then screw it into the main barrel. With a strong wire (mine is 12G) this is almost impossible. If you succeed, when assembling the plug, the wire will become tangled, twisting and tearing the strands of the conductor. If this is not enough, the ferrule can be easily unscrewed, potentially creating additional connection reliability issues. None of this will securely connect your components, and I can't say for sure I'm doing a quality install unless I can be sure there are simple connections. which really gets on my nerves. I spent $10 on something I can't use or return. In the garbage they send is where you live and learn, I guess.

Pros
  • Useful not only for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Not as thick as other master keys
